Joke or comment

Yesterday I went to a job interview in a call center. While I was waiting for a second interview I was talking to another candidate there. I told him ¨The bad thing about this kind of jobs is that there are always many gay people¨ He replied ¨I know¨ After some time the recruiter came and asked me if I was married and I responded yes and she wrote down my wifes name. She then asked this guy if he was married and he also responded yes. He said ¨Yes, my husbands name is Carlos!!¨ I just tried to pretend I didnt hear that and kep quiet. Good thing I didnt get slapped at when I made that joke/comment.
